Alicia Reyes McNamara’s (b. Chicago) work is an investigation of folklore and rituals around loss and healing, in which beings and landscapes grow and morph into one another. Her recent works are rooted in research on Mexican and Irish mythology, and creates an in-between space where identity is fluid along with cultures, languages and genders. Their practice examines the potential of how all things can transcend their own definition and acquire a new life or meaning. They completed her MFA at University of Oxford Ruskin School of Art in 2016. Their work has been included in Bloomberg New Contemporaries (2016). Their recent exhibitions include Niru Ratnam Gallery, London, UK; Lismore Castle Arts, Ireland; Huxley-Parlour, London, UK; Guts Gallery, London, UK; Tabula Rasa, Beijing, China; Whitechapel Gallery, London, UK; ‘Women to Watch UK’ at Christie’s, London, UK.
