Ana Mazzei's interests are defined by the inseparable links between men and narratives. This viewpoint is how her art evolves and expands.
According to Mazzei, landscapes, art, and architecture create a fiction in and of itself that unites them to create installations, locations, and objects. Some of the pieces are smaller in scope; one such piece is a sequence of installations that are grouped together on the floor to resemble architectural models of historical cities, amphitheaters, or monuments. The shapes are constructed of felt, concrete, or wood. Beyond the formalist exercises, these floor items suggest impenetrable archetypal patterns and unknown stories. Her work frequently employs this dual movement, implying and maintaining the items' symbolic meaning.
Her drawings, videos, sculptures, and installations resemble bits and parts of real-life stories, mythologies, and fictions. Other times, her creations serve as tools for observation, presenting this extensive body of work from a particular angle. With a strong emphasis on experimentation, the artist connects to the settings she works in by appropriating various tactile materials like felt and concrete.
Ana Mazzei (b.1979, Saõ Paolo, Brazil), earned her MA in Visual Poetics from UNICAMP in 2010 after completing her BFA in Visual Arts at Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado (FAAP) in 2006.
Her artwork can be found in the collections of the following institutions: Nouveau Musée National, Monaco; Sammlung Philara Collection, Düsseldorf, Germany; Glasgow International, Scotland; Museu de Arte Brasileira, FAAP, São Paulo, Brazil; MASP-Museu de Arte São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil; and S.M.A.K., Ghent, Belgium.
