This immersive design exhibition welcomes visitors into an eccentric, playful, and surreal dining room, where three distinct table settings showcase works from a variety of contemporary designers inspired by the shared experience of dining. Each room in the exhibition is dedicated to a specific mealtime—breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The exhibition blurs the line between the uncanny and the ordinary by reimagining commonplace utensils, plates, and tableware and giving them a life of their own. Challenging perceptions of the everyday rituals of mealtime, many of the design works draw attention to the artistic and decorative qualities of food. The exhibition also celebrates the ways in which cuisine can bring people together, evoking the warmth and intimacy of shared meals among family and friends gathered around the table. Each meal in this immersive exhibition is expressed through a carefully curated design language, transforming everyday table settings into reflections of mood, time, and shared experience.
As an extension of the immersive design exhibition, we invited thirty contemporary artists to reimagine the humble teapot as a canvas for creative expression. This initiative celebrates the universal ritual of tea drinking, a practice that transcends cultures and fosters connection, warmth, and the joy of shared moments. The breakfast room installation features an eclectic collection of bespoke teapots, each reflecting the unique vision of its creator. These designs aim to explore the deep cultural and ceremonial significance of tea, from its role in intricate Japanese tea ceremonies to the everyday comfort of a simple morning brew. Tea rituals, in their many forms, serve as a cornerstone of human interaction, symbolizing hospitality, community, and the bonds forged over a shared cup.
Through this collaboration, the teapot—an object often relegated to the functional—becomes a statement piece, inviting audiences to reflect on the artistry and meaning behind objects of daily life. In keeping with the playful and surreal spirit of the exhibition, these designs will blend the uncanny with the familiar, reimagining the ordinary to provoke conversation and inspire new perspectives on mealtime traditions. This showcase not only highlights the teapot as a functional object but also celebrates its role as a cultural icon, bridging diverse traditions and experiences through the universal language of design and storytelling.
